Radiátory, elektrické panelové ohrievače a konvekčné ohrievače pracujú na princípe vytvárania konvekčného prúdu v miestnosti. Keď sa vzduch ohreje, stúpa, cirkuluje na opačnú stranu miestnosti, ochladzuje sa, klesá a vracia sa späť k ohrievaču na opätovné ohriatie.
Zatvorené dvere zabezpečuje, že tento prúd ostane v danej miestností.
