Radiatorji, električni panelni grelniki in konvekcijski grelniki delujejo tako, da v prostoru ustvarjajo konvekcijski tok. Ko se vroč zrak dvigne, kroži na drugo stran prostora, se ohladi in potone ter potuje nazaj po tleh do grelnika, kjer se ponovno ogreje.
Zapiranje vrat poskrbi, da ta tok ostane v določenem prostoru.
